I don't think that ever works. Not for long, anyway. Why should we be the ones to compromise with enemies? Compromise should work both ways, or it is not compromise. If the giving in is all on one side, then it will never end. Demands will continue to be made until the enemy dominates everything. Peace is a wonderful goal. But, there can be no "peace at any price". Not for those who wish to retain their own souls.

Talking as an "opportunist", if the ego can take it, it's quite all right; provided, of course, we remember that it's only to buy peace, and not an actual turnaround in our point of view.

If anything else, one can get some breathing room.

In order for peace to come about, a LOT of views are going to need changing, but that is VERY uncomfortable for humans! So, are discomfort and fear ruling our judgements, or are intellect and decency? From which are we operating? and, is there a solution where all sides can win? These are the things leaders must ask themselves. So far, the former isn't being done. +5
