  • All jobs are work and all of them have a downside. You just have to learn to cope with them. Also, be aware that you probably won't keep the same job or career all your life. The world is changing so rapidly that whatever you start in probably won't exist in 20 years. So pick something where you can be useful in society and you'll make a decent living and ride it as far as you can. Keep your eye on the weather, as it were, for changes that you'll have to adjust to so that you are ready when they come. Don't expect the world to revolve around you, because it won't. Just for instance, I've been writing for several years and I'm published. But in the last few years, most of the American publishers have been bought out by foreign companies. Most magazines don't have editors that edit anymore, they have editors that cherry pick articles. If your work isn't ready for publication as is, they don't pick it. And no one takes a chance on new authors anymore. So you have to shift your focus and adjust. Everything has changed. What we really don't have anymore is enough tradesmen. Tool and die workers are so scarce that the auto industry has to ship people overseas to train them and they start at over $100,000 a year. We don't have enough electricians. A bulldozer operator starts out well above teachers. You can't find a good electrician or plumber or mechanic anymore, and if you do, they charge a ridiculous rate because you can't get anyone else. If I were starting over now, that is where I would go.
