  • Newsflash, some people are actually allergic to cat saliva, which is all over their fur because cats use their own saliva to clean themselves. Despite the fact that I have a cat of my own, yes I am allergic to the dander of certain breeds of cats. Why would somebody make that up?
  • It's because we hate cats....
  • Some people definitely are allergic to cats. And I don't think you mean incredulous - people are incredulous ("in a state if unbelieving"), it (people's allergy to cats) is incredible (not to be believed). Credulous means much the same as gullible, so incredulous means not gullible.
  • My wife has three of them, they make her eyes go all puffy, and she starts sneezing. She loves them, and has gone out of her way to make sure I resent and despise them, I don't claim to be allergic, I genuinely can't stand the smell of litter, the rat corpses they drag in, and my wife feeding them on the work tops where our food is prepared, as if it's hygienic. I would never be cruel to them, but given the chance I would re-home them like a shot!
  • I know people who actually are allergic to cats, so no they're not lying.
  • I know two people that are allergic to cat dander, but have no problem being around dogs. Their eyes get red and they sneeze like crazy, so I'd say it's legitimate. +4
  • Not everyone is lying. Pet dander is a known allergen, and it bothers some people. Whenever I'm in the house with a cat, I sneeze my head off. Some of these allergic people who hate cats probably hate them because the animal's presence triggers their symptoms. I don't hate cats, but I would probably like them a lot more if their presence didn't stop me from breathing. Haha.
  • Cat allergies can be very severe. I am allergic to cats, but love them. As long as I keep other things that are allergens in balance, i can handle cats.
  • My mother in law loved cats but reported to the vet when she took her dog in that she was allergic to cats. The vet said in many cases it wasn't the cat but what the cat is fed. When cats groom the saliva dries and flakes. Of course in amounts not detectable to the human eye but it does happen. What's in that saliva is often what people are allergic too. So by changing the cats diet allergy problems can be lessened or eliminated. She suggested a low ash diet and sure enough it did the trick. She now is a happy cat owner with no allergy issues at all. If cat allergies are the trouble please look into this solution.
