I don't know. I can't recall ever feeling a general hostility toward women specifically (humanity in general, yes, but that's different! :) But I would speculate that it's a fairly random phenomenon correlated with the desire to shed responsibility for ones' own life and troubles. If you don't want to be responsible for your own life, you need someone to blame. Really, just about anybody will do, but most men have been hurt by a woman at least once, just because that's the nature of life and relationships for everyone. So that could act as the catalyst and get generalized by the responsibility-avoidance machinery into "all women are bitches".
