  • No PEOPLE are responsible for being overweight. Macdonalds is just one outlet that supplies food for them to gorge on.
  • They arent the responsible for Americas obesity, but they certainly contribute to the fact.
  • Of course not. Now if we were forced to eat it and had no other options then I'd say yes. But, as it stands, we are still free to decide what our diets will be; and, if we are over weight then we have only ourselves to blame.
  • You can't blame an establishment that serves fatty food for people being over weight. Nobody's MAKING people eat there. If someone thinks that McDonald's is the reason for their weight problems, THEN THEY SHOULD STOP EATING IT. simple as that.
  • Absolutely not. My history teacher told me WWII is :) But really, you can blame everything for anything if you stretch it far enough. Mc Donalds is responsible for tempting us, that I know.
  • You might as well throw in Krispy Kreme doughnuts and Baskin Robbins ice cream for dessert. McDonald's is not responsible for all of those fat calories.
  • No, I don't. I think common sense is responsible...or lack there of.
  • Hell no, put down the cheeseburger people
  • yea and it doesnt help that most people are dumb enough to buy that crap even after knowing that its crap.
  • That stupid movie, "Super Size ME!" The documentary's director ate excessive amounts. His goal was not to promote McD, but to make an inflammatory statement, guranteed to get attention. It has started a mob reaction of the Food Police. No one holds a gun to your head (Despite Auntie EM's claims of coercion) and forces you to eat at McD. They would however have to hold a gun to my head to get me to eat rice cakes and unflavored yoghurt! I treasure the fact that I live in a country that gives me such diversity. Making wise choices, is my responsibility. Besides McD, why not think Domino's, Papa John's, All junk food, constant snacking, Beer, television, riding rather than walking. If I cut McD out of my diet and just skipped a meal, I'd loose about two pounds a year. Big Whoop! Americans like to eat, they don't need an excuse. But everyone likes a scapegoat!
  • Not solely, I think more of an issue is cars, lack of exercise and people being scared to let their kids outside. Society does not make it easy to be healthy, when you cannot find shops within walking distance that have healthy food - and you find that unhealthy food is cheaper than healthy - this all contributes. McDonald's are not to blame, they are just one contributor out of many reasons.
  • No - most of the overweight people in America are responsible for most of the overweight people in America.
  • No, everyone is responsible for their own choices. If McDonalds was forcing people to eat their food then possibly. In fact it is possible to eat at McDonalds quite healthily, and they have the nutritional content of all their food readily available to anyone interested.
  • No...That is a cop out for people who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions, and health.
  • Obesity is the result of poor self control and laziness. If McDonalds didn't exist, I'm sure people would still find a way to eat themselves into a heart attack.
  • McDonalds is just a restaurant, it does not dictate what people can or can't eat. McDonalds is not responsible for most of the over weight people in America, however their food may be. Some people might like to shift the blame of obese America onto McDonald's because it is the largest fast-food chain, but if someone offered you some dirt to eat it is your choice if you pay for it and eat it. Americans are responsible for the choices they make and therefore it is only the American public who are to blame for eating too much fast food.
  • I think people are responsible for themselves. NO one makes you go to McDonald's. I think we have to take ownership of our own problems.
  • McDonalds and all the other fast food joints contribute to the obesity epidemic in this Country. If you want to stay in shape, you shouldn't eat more than 2500 calories a day, the whole day, from breakfast to a snack before going to bed. In a typical visit to a McDonalds or other fast food joints, it is not uncommon to eat those 2500 calories in less than half an hour...It will eventually lead to weight gain.
  • I don't think they're directly responsible, Demand makes supply, its everyone's responsibility to chose what they do and don't put in their bodies and at what frequency
  • no mc donald's is not responsible for the over weight people in america. we all should take a responsibility for our own health. It ia up to the person to take control of the situation.
  • no the people who eat McDonalds are responsible!
  • No, McDonald's isn't FORCING people to eat it. They could go somewhere else if they wanted.
  • they do mislead people, saying that their salads are a "lower" fat option when they are only lower than a double burger with a large fries but as salads go, still very high in fat. and they push the biggest, fattiest of everything on everyone, even kids. BUT i don't think they are responsible. people have their own minds and their own ability to research and their own common sense. almost everyone in america had to sit thru health class in high school.
  • I don't think so at all. I am over weight. I could count on two hands how many times I[ve been to McDs in the last 10 years. And most of my family never goes either and most of us have a weight problem. My family has always had a weight problem even before we came to the US in the 50s. Who are we going to blame then? MacDs is a scapegoat. Maybe you can blame it on the 'fastfood mentality' but not pick out one company. It's not right or helpful.
  • Yes! It's those DAMB toys they keep stuffing in your happy meal. I mean, how can I resist. Fatty, greasey food that makes my kids sleepy, and a toy for me and mom to play with, too!!! My kids are gonna be HUUUGE!!!
  • Nope. People should be held responsible for their poor choice. I am fat because I put all the bad food in my mouth. Not McDonalds. Not Wendy's. Not Jack in the Box. Me. People want to put blame on everyone else and not look at the issues at hand. McDonald's only offers the food. You DON'T have to take it! If you choose to, that's why people are obese. Not 100%, but like 95-97% are.
  • no, people are responsible for their weight.
  • No more than guns kill people. Pencils(or keyboards) misspell words. Cars make people drive drunk. Or Spoons made Rosie O'Donnell fat! There's just been a huge increase in a tendency towards being lazy, you could just as easily blame TV, video games, the Internet, or the "Every kid that participates no matter how little effort they show, gets a trophy!" mentality about not wanting to hurt feelings or give kids any REAL sense of accomplishment.
  • I think this is a problem with many facets. The difficulty of finding healthy food on the run is only one part. Lack of activity, faster paced lifestyles, and more stress all add up to America being the jiggle-ass capital of the world. Due to a medical condition, I can't eat any sugar. None. Not even honey or other kinds of sweeteners. It is nearly impossible for me to find food without sugar in it. I have to cook all my own food. It takes a lot of time and work to do that. I have a pretty laid back life at the moment and I can't imagine if I had to do that while wrangling kids, a 60 hour a week job, and whatever dregs of a social life are left at the end of the day. I can see how convenience foods and fast food became so popular. People just can't spare an hour or two to prepare a proper dinner. They consider more time now a good trade for health problems later. Now, as for McDonald's, it is a company that is only in business to make money. It sells food (or something closely resembling such). The more it sells, the more money it makes. It attempts to make the food taste as good as possible to entice people to buy it. Most human palates like the taste of fat and sugar. Is it any surprise that the food is rife with fat and sugar? McDonald's can put whatever it wants in the food but the consumers are still complicit because they keep buying it! Ronald McDonald has never broken into my house, shoved chicken mcnuggets in my mouth, and stroked my throat until I swallowed. Now, me, Ronald, and that shamrock shake enema... that's private.
  • K,nothin personal, they can control what they shovel in their faces. Its not a McDonalds thing, blame Jack,Wendy,Denny,Carl, and Long John Silver!!
  • No the over weight people are responsible not the food industry.
  • I find it very distressing all the people who can't take responsiblity for their own actions. no one at McDonald's, or any other fast-food restaurant, or any restaurant for that matter, has ever forcibly made people consume anything they serve. everyone is always passing the blame on to someone else for everything they do wrong. whether it's gaining weight, hurting themselves, failing in school, etc. why can't people just admit, "hey, I'm lazy and irresponsible and I don't care about my health?" No, McDonald's is not responsible.
  • No, McDonalds is not responsible. People can make thier own greasy food at home and get fat.
  • No, I think lack of self control is responsible for the obese society of today.
  • No, peoples lack of willpower is why there are so many overweight people in America.
  • Those who frequent McDonald are responsible.
  • No. its the people them selves who have the problem. they arnt forced to go there. No offence to the over weight people rading this. also, why blame mcdonalds, why not blame burger king, carls jr, or other places. why mcdonalds?
  • No, if anyone thinks they are they're just not clear thinkers. They're not the problems because WE ALL KNOW that McDonald's is unhealthy and can definitely lead to weight problems.
  • No. and here is my theory of obese people in america. No offense to anyone, in particular. especially fatty fat fat people. America is a 'one up' country, and i LOVE this country!! just throwing that out there. Only in America will one drive around a parking lot for 30 minutes to find a 'closer' parking spot. Only in America will one 'supersize, up size, or king size' everytime. Only in America will we buy a 64 oz soda from the quicky mart. Only in America will you find moving walkways in shopping malls, casinos, etc. America as a whole has become lazy. and to top it off, nothing is ever good enough. we must find whatever it is we want bigger, better, faster. AND>>>>>>>>>> ONLY in AMERICA will cocaine never be good enough that we had to hype it up into something named after a part of your ass. CRACK. and those are just some examples. i love free speech;-)
  • Overweight people are responsible for their problem. Neither McDonald's nor anything or anyone else should be blamed for it
  • No, not just McDonalds. The fast food industry maybe. High fructose corn suryp is a contributor (despite there recent BS retaliation commercials). Restaurant that serve 2000 calore entres? Yeah they should take some blame. Oh, sorry, is that all restaurants, oh well. Commercial industry that pushes food food food A society that reject the overweight so they have nothing to enjoy but food... There's too much blame to pass around.
  • Nope. The individuals themselves are most responsible for obesity in America.
  • No, there are so many other fast food places that have food that is chocked full of polyunsaturated fats. But they are not responsible. People make their own choices of where and what to eat! No one has forced them to eat there.
  • Did McDonald put a gun to anyones head?
  • No, fat people are responsible for the over weight people in this country.
  • Of course not. Do you order the double quarter pounder with a supersize fries, or do you order a salad? Nobody's to blame for what you eat but you.
  • Only if Sears is also responsible for so many men having rusty unused Craftsman tools lying in their garages, and Citibank Visa is responsible for people repeatedly buying more stuff than they can reasonably pay for in a month's time, and our school teachers are responsible for giving us Ds and Fs just because we got the answers on the tests wrong after not studying at all. No one has to eat at McDonalds. Choices. We all make choices. And they are OURS.
  • No, I think people are responsible for that. But I McD's should realize that they contribute to it, by advertising it as healthy when its not (im talking about those calorie loaded salads lol
  • McDonalds has unhealthy food, but that much is common knowledge. People know they are putting bad things in their bodies when they eat it, and they choose to do so anyways.
  • no, it's not mcdonalds fault, they don't force their food down people's throats.people need to take responsiblity for their actions.
  • Not unless people are held hostage and fed nothing but McDonald's food by McDonald's management, owners or employees..personal responsiblilty is what is the root cause. You make lousy choices, you live with the consequences. Trying to shift the blame is typical..no one is ever responsible for his/her actions..it is always someone else's fault. We have a society filled with babies instead of grownups. :) Happy Thursday! :)
  • it's not any certain restaurant that is at fault: it's the people themselves. we all grew up knowing what the food guide pyramid was. the people themselves need to take responsibility. mcdonald's isn't forcing food down peoples' throats.
  • People are responsible for making themselves fat. We do have to practice a certain amount of restraint when it comes to advertising.
  • No. It's a temptation not a cause.
  • No. I think that some people have so much trouble with weight because of a problem with their elbows...every time their elbow bends their mouth flies open. Stop laying blame and take responsibility.
  • they are in part responsible by offering shitty food that appeals to fat unhealthy people. they also put high sodium levels to ensure repeat customers and probably a bunch of other addictive additives. the media also spends a whole bunch of time advertising mcdonalds and other fat people food and a whole heap of money is spent on advertising unhealthy food, and a tiny portion of money is spent EDUCATING THE PUPLIC ON FOOD. they dont even teach kids about food in school and thats why they serve fucking shit in cafeterias and have pop machines. this leaves the public too stupid and ignorant on their diets allowing them time after time to make stupid decisions when it comes to eating. its probably a population control scheme.
  • No way. everyone is responsible for their own actions. McDonals is my favorite :) I love their fries. But Wendy's has the best burgers :P
  • Did you ever see the movie "Super Size Me"? ... Do you think that drug dealers are responsible for people suffering from cocaine withdraw? I know that cocaine is worse than fast food, but the idea that a seller can be held responsible for the health problems a good creates exists. Cigarette companies have been sewed on this theory. I would be surprised if there were more aggregate years of life are lost to cocaine than Mc Donald's.
  • The only people responsible are the ones who eat their stuff.
  • No I think people need to take responsibility for their own actions and lifestyle and diet etc!
  • In a word, no. People in America are responsible for their own weight.
  • no the goverment for allowing mcdonalds to exist
  • I think People are responsible for being overweight
  • no the people who have poor eating habits are responsible...
  • nope, people are responsible for what and how much they eat. I eat at McDonalds about 2 times a month and I am not overweight.
  • No people eating too much and not excersing is!
  • No I don't think Mc Donalds is responsible for over weight people in America. It's part of the peeople themselves/ parents how they were raised. Children try to basically be like their parents and try to do things they do. Like hobbies/eatting, etc... Genetics too...
  • Yes, kind of in the same way Smith & Wesson is responsible for all of the gun-related deaths, which is to say, responsible for the availability of something detrimental. It still takes the choice of a person to eat at MacDonalds or to pull the trigger. The responsibility ultimately lies with the individual, to choose what's best for them. Unfortunately, many people choose the low price and convenience over their own physical well-being. Keep in mind there are thousands of MacDonalds spread over almost every industrialized country in the world, not just America.
  • Just not Mc Donalds there is a ton of fast food chains out there, I don't blame them, I figure the parents have a blame for that, lack of laziness on there cooking skills, not all are like that though.
  • No... People are in denial and can't admit that they are lazy and too self conscience to admit that they got fat by overating and not doing anything because the world doesn't accept them unless they have some medical or mental problem or ailment that would not allow them to be healthy like everyone else. If that is your life choice. Don't blame what you eat, blame who ate it! Why do you think they throw that occassional fat family into the mix in any fast food commercial but you never see them in any add for beauty products, clothing or cosmetics that are not specifically geared toward fat people.
  • No they're not responsible. People are responsible for their own actions and what they consume.
  • McDonalds doesn't put a gun to anyone's head. It is completely on the people who choose to eat there. I also believe the lawsuits against fast food restaurants are completely ridiculous!
  • Well, whoever orderd the meal got excatly what they asked for, JUNK. Honestly I used to eat double cheese burgers like they were from heaven, but it has been almost a year now that I have not eaten anything from McDonalds. I feel great and appriciate ACTUAL FOOD! But McDonalds never forced that grease down my throat, it was my decision, and there is no doubt that if I would have kept eating those cheese burgers I would be much larger and very unhappy.
  • no, I once saw a t-shirt that read if guns kill people, spoons and forks made Rosie O'donnel fat. Mc Donalds offers healthy foods on the menu, but ppl don't want them; they are very low sellers for a reason, when ppl want to eat out they don't usually want rabbit food. MOST ppl, not all, make themselves fat. Ronald Mc Donald didn't hold a gun to their head
  • Is there a quicker way to know if I have already answer a question? No, they aren't, the peeps that eat it are.
  • no. but I feel that they have a responsibility to help people eat properly.
  • No, you've to responsible for your own body.
  • No more so than any other heavily advertised junk food.
  • yes, i would/do,because of eating just 1 big mac meal from their FAST FOOD fREAKSHOW has the same amount of calories as eating 20 apples, and if you compared that to eating 21 apples you would be hungry within roughly 1-3 hours after you are finished!!
  • No, I rarely ever eat there and I'm overweight.
  • No, because it's your choice if you decide to eat there or not. You're the one who makes the decisions of what you put into your body and what you don't. I gave up eating there and at Burger King a good many years ago. I still don't plan on eating there again in my lifetime.
  • No I don't think Mc Donalds or any restaurant for that matter is to blame for the weight problems in the U.S. :)
  • No. Nobody forces anyone to eat.
  • No. The overweight people are responsible for the overweight people. You can't blame car companies for speeding or cigarette companies for cancer or alcohol companies for drunk driving. No one forces people to do what they do, and the structure of the Federation is one that emphasizes individual rights and responsibilities. McDonald's is no different than anyone else trying to make a buck.
  • No, it is everyones responsibility to take care of themselves, includes what they eat, how often they eat it,m and keeping a healhty diet for themselves...... though the delicious foods at mcadees is good to
  • Of course not. People are overweight because they have poor nutrition and bad health habits and lack discipline. Kids unfortunately are affected by the stupidity of their parents.
  • No. They force nobody to eat in their restaurants.
  • they are responsible for providing the food but no one is pointing a gun at the customer saying eat it or else. The lazy customer is to blame not the restaurant.
  • They are just part of the machine not the fault.
  • it's like this, if you see a fire, run up and shove your hands into it, is the fire Responsible for your burns? No, you are. humans have FREE WILL, if you choose to eat 2 big mac's, a large fries, milk shake and large soda every day, you will get fat, and that is your choice. until McDonald's starts using armed mercenaries to drag people off the street and forcing them to eat at gun point, no one is responsible but the people who go there to eat way to offend (yes, that includes me!)
  • I don't think they are responsible, HOWEVER, their food is addictive. Many documentaries have shown how your body becomes accustomed to it, and the food literally makes your unhealthy and sick. I don't think they are directly responsible, but I think they are adding to the problem.
  • Of course not! Those lazy-assed oinkers are really STOOOPID! Anyone can do some form of exercise every day, aside from getting up only to get food. Sheesh! People who sue Mcdonald's for 'making' them fat need a lobotomy. What the hell are the parents of obese kids up to? DON'T BUY JUNK FOODS! DON'T GIVE KIDS MONEY TO BUY JUNK FOODS! And set a good example by eating right. And in the right amounts. And exercise.
  • It is not the fast food joints but the Greedy people that overeat and do not exercise.
  • Americans are proud to live in a free country. They are free to make their own foods choices. Blame the establishment for their obesity? Sure, you're free to do that. Sue them? My God, I hope you never win these numbskull lawsuits. What kind of a country would America be then?
  • well seeing as McDonalds isn't shovig food down anybody's throats then i would say that they are definitely not responsible for anything weight-related.
  • Jade has it right. And she's so funny! Imagine every time an obese person bends his/her elbow, their mouths fly open. Oh, boy. What next?
  • No. It's just more cr@p from the bureaurocracy.
  • Nah! I want more Big Macs. LOL!!!
  • McDonald's don't force people to eat their food
  • No, the overweight people in America are responsible for themselves. (And the same applies everywhere else, too)
