Why do men want space and women want hugs? (when upset)

because when we are upset we want to hit something and we don't want it to be you.

It's a biological difference between us that only a scientist could explain lol. Men have what's called "spike anger" and women have more grudge anger, that last longer. Men are more prone to become increasingly angry very quick and need time to cool down, where women want to solve the problem right away and can still be angry, but aren't so furious that they need to escape before they punch your face in lol.

though this question is sterotypical, i do agree that MOST men want space and MOST women want a hug.. i think this is because - Women are usually more open with their feelings then men. and also, men men don't like to be seen crying - most women are quite okay with been seen crying.

I like space because it helps me think everything out. But depending on the person I enjoy hugs very much.

Since men do not deal with emotions as often they need a little space to figure it all out and compose themselves. Women are more accustomed to dealing with emotions and like the comfort and support of human contact.

I am a woman and I'm one who likes my space. Hugs are not my thing, especially when it comes from a hypocrite or some slime ball, but I know I should learn to accept them from ones who truly are genuine and caring. When I'm upset I do want to be left alone.

Must define "upset" like loss of a family member or girlfriend/boyfriend or upset over team losing or getting dent in the car. Women hug every chance they get, especially younger generation, on almost any ocassion. Men need space to rant and rave so as to not harm bystanders. I have no clue why women hug (except for grieving).
