Must I have "parental permission" before I join the LDS church or can I just convert on my own?

    In the United States and Canda, at least, you will not be able to get baptised if you are under 18 unless you have parental permission.

    Baptism and conversion are two distinct (though related) things.

    You are converted when you obtain a testimony. No one else can dictate what you believe.

    Baptism is an ordinance which marks your conversion. Baptism and confirmation officially make you a member of the Church. You must legally be of majority in order to be baptized without consent of your legal guardian. In most countries, this equates to 18 years old.

    God will understand if you are converted but not baptized because your parents won't let you.
