Seed: A computer that has a complete copy of a certain torrent. Once your client finishes downloading, it will remain open until you click the Finish button (or otherwise close it.) This is known as being a seed or seeding. You can also start a BT client with a complete file, and once BT has checked the file it will connect and seed the file to others. # http://dessent.net/btfaq/#terms In other words, seeders are the number of people who are sharing the file. Peers: A peer is another computer on the internet that you connect to and transfer data. Generally a peer does not have the complete file, otherwise it would be called a seed. Some people also refer to peers as leeches, to distinguish them from those generous folks who have completed their download and continue to leave the client running and act as a seed. # http://dessent.net/btfaq/#terms

THe more seeders, the better. Seeders are the ones uploading to you, while leechers are downloading off you.
-
Seeds have the -entire- file, leeches have partials in the world of torrent but are able to pass pieces over the network.

To my way of thinking, a 'Leech' is someone who downloads the file and then disconnects, refusing to then act as a Seed. What the torrent sites list as Leeches are actually listed in the client programme as 'Peers'. Peers can and do share with each other. Suppose you are in the UK and downloading a torrent. Suppose there are 10 seeds in the USA and 50 Peers in UK. Most of the contribution to your file will come from the local Peers, especially if you have a fast link to them and the USA Seeds are on slow connections. The great thing about torrents is the way that the clients work to share and combine their resources. So, what are listed as Leeches are not a bad thing and can be a good thing for you.

Seeders are the number of record companies that are tapping your internet connection. Leechers are the people sending you a virus.

seeds are the ones who gives, and leech are the one who takes only. to avoid getting leech, become a seed. i was once downloading a file and not seeding any, when i noticed the file i was downloading was decreasing instead of going the other way. so i suggest you seed so that the leech have other files to suck on. damn leeches.
