If a batter tries for a double and is thrown out at second (obviously would have been a "safe single"), would this ruin an otherwise "perfect game"?

The batter is credited with a single by the official scorer because he reached first base safely. He receives the "value" of a hit for each base he reaches safely. Had he been thrown out at third, he would get credit for a double. Had he tired for an inside the park home run and been thrown out at the plate, he would get credit for a triple.

There goes the perfect game and no the no-hitter.
