I have a 99 astro van, While stopped at a red light the idle is way down, it makes the dash shake. However the van runs great going down the road. A friend mentioned replacing the mass air flow sensor,however the manual states the idle air control valve?

Well, they are two different items. Both pretty cheap and easy to replace. Go to the auto and ask for a can of MAF spray. give the sensor a good cleaning, it is not something you want to rub on, so the spray will do the trick. But if I was going to guess... it is probably the idle air control. Normally cost around 30.00 and it easy to replace. The idle air valve should make the check engine light come on as well.
