  • No most people go to a professional........ And what might look fine now can become a pretty nasty infection. Or AIDS, or Hepititas..... Pretty scary
  • Bleeding and redness with an injury can vary widely between people. At this point I would recomend that your freind apply a topical antiseptic such as betadine as soon as possible to mitigate any possible infection. Diseases such as aids or hepatitis are only a risk if the organisms, in this case viruses, are present at the site of the piercing. The real danger is in Strep or a similar bacteria causing an infection as these are always present on the surface of everybodies skin. Hopefully they used a sterile instrument to do perform this minor surgery on themselves. Do not forget the Betadine.
  • I think it can be normal, but your friend should be careful. I've seen people who pierced themselves get nasty infections. She will have to keep the area VERY clean, disinfect it a lot, and if anything unusual happens like swelling or oozing, see a doctor. I don't imagine a belly button should "bleed a lot", when pierced, if you do the piercing correctly there wouldn't be much blood involved. But again, this is why you should let professionals do it.
