2 possible things you are refering to. . . A cap is the amount of international matches the player has featured in. So for example a player like David Beckham has 112 for England. Also intrestingly enough they are actually presented with a cap after each performance to signify who they played for, against and the date. The other cap would be a wage cap. This is implemented when a soccer league caps (limits) the amount of money a team can spend on a footballers wage/transfer fee etc. However in most major footballing leagues this rule no longer exists.
