Sounds like they forgot to call you and are making an excuse.. it was their responsibility to let you know it was done. How would you know when to call them ... and they'd probably get upset if you kept calling before it was done. Poor Customer Service for sure.

Go pick up your VCR and pay your bill. Then, should you need such services again, seek out another shop who meets your standards in this matter. Business ethics and manners are important. If this guy isn't willing to consider this, or improve upon them, then take your business elsewhere. In today's economy, customer service is more important than ever in keeping a business going good.
