  • I think it's a little oversimplified. The Mexicans aren't producing the yayo; they're middling it for the South Americans. It's far easier for Colombian/Peruvian/Bolivian/Brazilian cartels to sell to Mexicans and then let them worry about getting the product into the States; they still make money and just picked up a new middle-man farther north. It used to be that Panama was the middle, but the US took care of that in '89. So the Colombians have to work harder to get their blow farther north, which means they are taking more risk but can also charge the Mexicans more for the product than they charged the Panamanians (basically, charge them what the Panamanians were charging them back in the day). It works out for everyone involved in the business.
