hello..i had a 98, and its alot of work..honesty i would say take it to a shop...i had to do the timing on my neon and i wish i had just taken it to a shop...i ended up spending mor time any money than taking it to a shop... if you do want to do it yourself buy a amnual (20$ @shucks) you are going to need a crankshaft pully, those run around 20-40 plus the timing belt which is about 50$. if your timing belt snapped, your going to have to re-time your engine...which is making it so your pistons in your engine fire at the right time so your car will run. this is hard. so basically you get under the hood...take the front passenger wheel off and your going to need a floor jack...it is alot of work...you have to loosen the bolt on the alternater and take that belt off...than the second belt...than you can get to the timing. this is where you will need a crankshaft pully...you take a wheel off to acess the timing belt fully. there should be notches in the wheels..there was 3 in mine and might be 4 in yours, you have to line the notches up with the nothces on the other peices... you have to be careful if you do it wrong your car is shot...GET A MANUAL!! Best of luck...if you have questions feel free to message me or however that works
