You buy stuff you need in a store. You browse for stuff you want in a shop.

I always think of a store as bigger than a shop, but really they are both the same.
Maybe stores sell a variety of goods. ie.hardware
Maybe shops sell one specific thing. ie.lingerie or women's wear.
A shop makes there product.
i think stores might be bigger than shops.
Beats me. All I know is that I used the word shop more often in Europe and the word store more often in America.
