When I was little, I had a hard time trying to be a kid (many long stories to explain that some other time)...
So recently (I'm 16 now), when I was at a friend's game, she looked up and saw me being a kid.

I was so happy to pounce randomly through the tall grass and then freeze before bolting again and squeaking when I would hit a water puddle or two.

If by that you mean they were always mature for age all while growing up, then they may have difficulty bonding with their childhood peers. That in turn may ultimately make them LESS mature because they didn't know how to mature properly.
