Can you smell licorice?

Not at this very moment! But, yes I can smell licorice when it IS here. Has an aniseed(y) smell to me.

Do you mean can I smell it right now, can I tolerate the smell of it, or am I able to recognize its characteristic odor? Certainly when it is around I can smell it. I like the smell.

When it is around. I like Asian pears, also called apple pears. Some of these pears have a faint licorice taste.

If I'm around it, yes. Right now I've got a tin of licorice candies but the lid is tightly closed. Maybe when I'm making dinner and I cut some fennel we're going to eat, then I'll smell that aroma :-)
