  • no. I wouldn't try it. we have had a few daylight robberies.
  • I live in the Dublin area of Ohio, USA, where the cops don't have anything else better to do rather than patrol the entire Dublin area day and night. I once left my garage door open for a whole night in the summer. Nothing was stolen. Therefore I would say it's pretty safe here.
  • As a rule, no. However however at certain times during the year it is OK and we do leave the door unlocked [and open].
  • Yes. We are well out in the country. It wouldn't be safe for our house to be known to be left unlocked, but the occasional occurrence would be very unlikely to be spotted, let alone taken advantage of.
  • yes as a matter of fact in the summer i have left my door opened all night
  • I would do it during the day, but not at night. I would not do that even if I lived in the safest of neighborhoods.
  • Actually, yes it is. In 30 years, we only had one break-in (in a shed out away from the house), and that turned out to be neighborhood kids. I've actually gone to bed at night and forgotten to close my workshop door (also out away from the house), with thousands of $ worth of tools in it. Never had a problem (I live rural, on 8 1/2 acres). So far, it's been pretty good here, but I still try to get all locked up at night. During the day, I've actually gone to town for awhile and left the house door unlocked and the tool shop open.
  • I often do it if I don't know where my keys are, but I always lock just in case. I'm sure I could get away with not locking the door ever, because the door isn't necessarily the last line of defense. If I were a robber, I'd be wary of an unlocked front door anyway, but I'm just paranoid...
  • I guess it is at certain times, but how do you know when those times will be? Once while I was away on vacation, a maintenance person entered my apartment and failed to lock up afterward. I returned 4 days later to an unlocked door, and nothing had been touched. However, I've never done that myself and I'm not comfortable doing so.
  • Yes, I live in a small village and I have been told that there was a burglary here about 8 years ago. If I lived in one of the larger towns nearby I wouldn't, though.
  • No but, we do it all the time. We are used to living where you didn't need to lock your door, even if you went on vacation for a week; and, we just never got into the habit of locking them.
  • Interstingly enough, I NEVER lock my doors. However, I am anal about locking my car as my CD's were stolen out of my visor once. Can't lose my CD's, ya know. But go ahead, steal my kids! Nobody ever said I was rational.
  • Only if I don't mind coming back and finding the Big Bad Wolf in my bed.
