  • The first one that comes to mind is the United States Merchant Marine Academy. It's tough to get into (I understand a written endorsement form your local Congressman or U.S. State Senator helps), you'll get a good education and lots of job opportunity, but It's more like the Marine Corps than MIT for the first couple of years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Merchant_Marine_Academy M.I.T. offers a Master of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering as well, which would be good after you finish your first four years at the Merchant Marine Academy. If you go through those two programs, and you have a strong work ethic to boot, you will have it made.
