  • La guardia is much smaller and handles domestic flights. JFK (formerly Idlewild) is much larger and handles both international and domestic flights. Most pilots dislike La Guardia--it is known for short runways and steep descent/ascent angles due to noise abatement procedures.

LaGuardia (and Newark) are whats known as a reliever airports. They supplement JFK in handeling the massive amount of traffic to NY. LaGuardia is also capable handling international flights, but JFK serves better for connections (Main Hub), so relief from LaGuardia comes in the form of handeling shorter domestic flights with smaller aircraft.
