Cider is better as it gets you merry. Other than cider I have little use for apples.

Green...in Australia we have the Granny Smith, named after Maria Smith of Ryde Sydney, who threw away an apple, then noticed that the seeds had taken (unusual). When the tree grew, the apples were different from the originals, green, crisp and wonderfully tart sweet. Good old Granny Smith for not having pulled the seedlings out.
