  • The Feudal Oligarchy not only favored the rich, it institutionalized their status. The system made sure that the poor serfs never got any bootstraps to pull themselves up by. The New Republican party seems determined to get us back to Feudalism.
  • No. People have a choice. They can work hard or they can both work hard and work smart. For example, they can choose to work in a factory their whole life (and probably not get very far) or they can choose to be a entrepreneur (and maybe become rich). It's always a choice. To steal from people who had the initiative to go the more difficult route and then give their money to the ones who didn't have the same initiative is, of course, wrong.
  • Oh robin was right... those tights were a little fru-fru!
  • Life, evolution and the systems that stem from them don't favor intention, only results. People who are better at taking are on top, period. I don't need what the top provides so I don't bother, and I've definitely never needed handouts, so I never understood Robin hood in the first place.
  • Economies flourish when there are a lot of people within them that are spending money. If you only have rich people, 2 or 3% and poor people 97/98% the economy will not do well. So spreading the wealth and creating a large middle class is a very good plan! These are the ones that cause money to make the world go 'round, not the rich nor the poor.
  • Good question. Is that why most civilizations only last for about 200 years or so? Is that how long it takes 'em t' "cannibalize" their middle classes? No middle class t' support workers(poor) - no workers. Crash goes th' hole house a cards.
  • There is only one real economic "system" and that is laissez-faire. Anything else is forcefully imposed by government in an attempt to direct human behavior in accordance with the whim of the ruling class. There is no such thing as a valid human endeavor which is imposed by force. Force is the one thing that can stop a human being from being...human.It is not a matter of favoring the poor. The poor are always present. So are the weak, the stupid, the unscrupulous, the violent. As long as humanity is present, different "versions" of humanity's struggle with existence will manifest. What hubris that any one, especially those who gain political power, imagines that they can "create" an economic "system".
  • I disagree with the premise that "most economic systems do not favor the poor", as if they are set up to deliberately disfavor the poor. "Economic systems" are just methods and markets to help producers and consumers decide which options to pursue for production and consumption. We could say with a higher degree of accuracy that political systems are generally set up to disfavor the poor (and that includes Dictators of all stripes, Theocracy, Monarchy, Communism, Socialism, and republican and parliamentary Democracy -- whether run by "the left" or "the right"). Political systems are generally run by "elites" who will naturally ensure that they and their class are always favored (and when they're not, as in the French Revolution, then no one is safe). The more pernicious political systems deliberately DO weaken "the poor", especially while they purport to champion that class. In fact, I think one could say that the more bombast there is in support of "the poor", the worse they're being screwed.
  • Jesus said (Mark 14:7) "The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want." The poor will always be with us. It is a fact of life. People should donate to charities and help out anyone they can who is in need but to sin to do so, to steal, is immoral. Socialism can favor the poor over the wealthy. "Share the wealth" is an unfair motto to those who have used their creativity, initiative, and intelligence to create businesses that make a good profit.
