  • Same bearing it had on the less modern world! Girls and boys are different - they play differently, develop different interests, develop at different speeds, think differently, behave differently... (I'm talking generalities here). It is important to have groups where the sexes are mixed but it is also important to have groups where they are not - as children and as adults. We need that time to round out our selves just as much as we need to mix and learn to get along...
  • In Australia there are Girl Guides and Scouts. Once grils did guides and boys did scouts. Then it Changed!!! Now girls who want to do girly things attend guides, and girls who want to learn stuff like knots and camping (if their families already don't camp)and scout stuff join scouts. Girls can be joeys, cubs, scouts, venturers and rovers if they choose to do so. No discrimination based on gender.
  • Because boys have cooties!
  • There are "gender exclusive" groups as you say. And then there are mixed groups. It is dependent upon your age groups. Scouting is open to all childern. Just as Friar Tuck said, boys and girls play differently and enjoy different things. We allow them to be kids and to participate in the things that they enjoy. Our Cub scout pack and Girl scouts participate in the some of the same social events and projects.
