  • Well, the military gives Good Conduct medals simply for not getting into trouble for an enlistment term, so what's the difference? Sure, why not?
  • No, I don't think it's right. I think it only fortifies the "getting something for nothing" attitude. Students should be recognized and rewarded for outstanding achievement, not for being goody two shoes. What's next, medals for watching news on TV or going to bed by 9:30 pm ??
  • It's a good idea to "catch" others doing the right thing and acknowledge it. But we need to preserve the idea that winning a medal is for performance above and beyond the call of duty. Giving them for simply doing what you are supposed to do seems to me to trivialize them. Perhaps some other award, like a framed certificate, would be a better idea.
