  • I believe that some kind of Amazonian anaconda was the species and the length i think was something like forty two feet i'm sorry i don't have more information.
  • Ever 'captured'? Dead or alive? And do you mean "which snake is the longest" and "which snake is heaviest" or "which one snake is the heaviest and longest?" Which would mean it was longer than any snake heavier than it while, at the same time, being heavier than any snake longer than it was. Its not as complicated as it looks, if you believe the sources. Or it could be a snakier problem than I thot at first thot. Anyway; "The longest (and heaviest) snake ever held in *captivity* was a female reticulated python (Python reticulates) named ' Colossus' which was 8.68 m (28ft 6in) long and weighed 145Kg (320lb) at her heaviest. She died at Highland Park Zoo, Pennsylvania, USA, on April 15 1963." http://wellsking.tripod.com/worldrecs.htm (my *emphasis* added, nmj) "The heaviest living snake is a Burmese Python (Python molurus bivittatus) weighing 182.76 kg (403 lb.) It is 21 years old, 8.23-m (27 ft) long, and has a girth of 71.12 cm (28 in) Known as "Baby", she lives at the Serpent Safari Park in Gurnee, Illinois, USA. http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/content_pages/record.asp?recordid=53799 (as of 2005, nmj) The longest *reliably* reported snake is a "reticulated python (Python reticulates) ... 10 m (32 ft 9.5 in)... shot in Indonesia, in 1912." http://wellsking.tripod.com/Worldrec1.htm The heaviest reliably reported is an anaconda (Eunectes murinus) of 227Kg (500lb) and 8.45m (27ft 9in) long shot in Brazil in c. 1960. http://wellsking.tripod.com/Worldrec2.htm Lesseenow, Baby is heavier than the longer late Colossus (I dunno why they put 'and heavier' for Colossus anyway. mebbee they were tryin to say longest AND heaviest.) Uh, the 1960 Anaconda is.. oh my brain hurts.. hire a logistician or rent a linguist. CAPTURED ALIVE- longest - Colossus,Python reticulates, at 28'6" heaviest- Baby,Python molurus bivittatus, at 403 lb KILT- longest- Python reticulates, at 32 ft 9.5 in heaviest-Eunectes murinus, at 500lb But, "of the claims that have been taken seriously... in 1907.. LtCol Percy Fawcett of the Royal Artillery... shot an ... anaconda ... in the Amazon...a total length of 62ft [18.9m]" Fawcett was metculous in observations but "his explorations often read like a comic-book " ( ibid. from one of those tripod sites cited) As civilization snakes its way farther into the boonies "specimens in the 12-15m (40-50ft) range" might be found. They'll probably be heavier too and they'll probably be anacondas, a "17ft anaconda weighs the same as a 24ft python". . Herpetologists have calculated that such a big serpent would have to spend most of its time in the water and anacondas spend most of their time in the water.( Paraphrased, op cited, speculated [the spectacled cobra gets close to 9 ft] and ibeded from the cited sites. nmj) Ya might have noticed I only cited Guinness Book of Records once, they often get cited as authentic, but I got no idea how metculous their research really is, I alusss wasss ssspussspicious of them. Could be Col. Percy took a bunch of Guinness, inventoried as Royal cannon balls, up the Amazon with him, could be that influenced his measurement of the stoutness, if not the length, of that big ol snake. His 'meticulous' measurement was, 'a length of 45ft [13.7m] lay out of the water, and 17ft [5.2m] in it.' I wonder why didn't he pull it all out of the water? Was he so stouted up that he was worried 'bout fallin in with the piranhas or was it just "too yucky to touch, old chap." I also wonder if Colossus had a real loooong open casket funeral, or just wound up on a reel and tossed into the dump.
  • You people must do your research better ,..i'm a ecologist/researscher ,specialized in Zoology especially reptiles and Amphibians,.... The LArgest Serpent live ever recorded is pretty unsure because the data is unsufficient ... But a few date i recall here will surely move your excitement to the top ... Ijn 1912 that's right the 34 footer Celebes Reticulated python is mentioned here ,but in 2002 Japan made a record with one of about 40 foot, a huge one was found at one of the Isles , the source i have still to check for the exact location,...... But Even 40 Foot seems large ,even larger ones have been reported from Sumatra and Java too,and MAlaisia,.. F ew records exist on these gigantic serpents ,but Biologists and Zoologists are now aware of the possibility that these dimensions could occur ,Biochemical and Fysiological research have proven that possible 50 foot ,is an option for this species to grow and that's about 15 meters..... A snake caught in Java Kendall Park ,should be having this lenght but ,it wasn't quite the story ,the real Snake Gigant was still hiding with it s owners the trible people Of Sumatra,....which this story confirmed.
  • As the one that raised Baby (formerly Nichole) not being a herpetologist I can still say that My snake grew to be the heaviest snake probably in the world of all species. All accounts of huge snakes saying were shot in the early 1900's with out accurate recordings or pictures just word of mouth is as inaccurate as telling your fish that got away stories..In the wild, all animals face threats, disease and chasing food..None ever live as long as a captive born snake..none can ever grow as large as one..I fed Nichole as much as she could eat all the way until her time I gave to my friend who opened Serpent Safari..The only way you can grow a bigger snake is to start with a baby Anaconda that is Female..But Anacondas are hard to deal with, they are water snakes..Burmese pythons make the best pet of all pythons...Be careful, even a tame snake can accidentally kill you..Reticulated pythons grow fast and are super strong. They may have a chance to also top a Burmese but they seem to be a skinny snake and very active...more tempermental..You cannot make a tank for a pet python. you have to make a room..Growing a record snake does not happen by accident..It took 18 years of buying rats by the hundreds and chickens and rabbits twice a week...But as I compare a reptile that is huge and can kill to a wife---A fat wife, is a happy wife..hahhahahahah
