00 ford ranger and it is stuck in four wheel drive the lights are off and the switch clicks and says its out of four wheel drive but it is still in four wheel drive if you put it in neautral and push it the gears and stuff spin how do you get that to stop

Had a 02 sportrac that done the same thing it had a cheap 4 wheel drive control module behind the glove box that went out. Evidently if you spike it it burns out. A spike can be causes when changing the battery by hooking up the wrong post first. I beleive this happen in my case cause my sportrac was like new and the only thing I had done to it was replaced a dead battery.
