Can a style of a ring be altered? I have an OLD ring left to me from my great grandmother, all the stones need to be replaced. it is a three diamond ring (they are round) when i have it restored can they change it around to a new style? princess cut?

It kind of looks like this... Is it possible to change how the diamonds are set in there, like with claws instead of having all surrounded.. this isnt making sense is it haha the original one is missing two of the main diamonds, and, and the third one is chipped, so that needs to be replaced also. but the band is gorgeous, little patterns on the side, and as i said it was my mums nannas. so i want to keep it in the family and do it up.

I've never seen a princess cut ring w/ multiple stones, I think brillant cut is best for this ring. Make sure jeweler has documentation for the stones. and you know to examine the stones BEFORE they are mounted, ask for the jewelers loupe and examing with light source behind you. be carefull jewelers often put favorable light in stores so stone looks better than it is. if you can do it in natural sunlight that would be best. look for chips around the edge, look for inclusions, look for colour. Cut, Clarity, Colour. those three C's determine the diamonds worth. set stone on an old newspaper with text a diamond will make the print fuzzy, and hazey. fake diamonds the text will be perfectly visible, as if looking thru piece of glass. very nice ring i think, from the picture.
