Why do people mark historical figures' birthdays? Instead of the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr, why not mark the anniversary of the "I Have a Dream" speech?

why not mark both? more holidays can only be a good thing right?! :)

MLK should be remembered because he was a good person who helped a lot of people. Revering him for a single accomplishment would be insulting. It was all of his accomplishments, his life experience, that made him the man he was.
