Pretty much; although in those kinds of questions you'll always get more of one than the other, but both WILL occur.

I will say yes. I try to not downrate answers just because i dont agree, but mant people do it on this site ;)

to disagree with the other 5 answers, no i ask and answer questions about gay marriage, abortion, gun rights and all that contraversial jazz, as long as you can defend your asnwer with facts, then you're good to go, now when someone asnwers a question about gay marriage with something like 'i hate fags' then they get downrated

Of course you are. And on top of that, no matter what side you take or do not take, I bet someone has already said it, a few answers up, just with slightly different words. So you might as well just skip over those sorts of questions and not get downrated:P
