  • I'm not going to speak for creationists (shudder), but you do know that Mendel; a. was a priest, so that should put part of the "all Christians must be creationists" bunk to bed, and b. Mendel cooked the books, his numbers were actually too perfect.
  • I'm not against one idea or the other... I really don't care how we were created, or how Earth got here; just knowing that we are here is good enough for me... Yeah, I like science and yeah I'm a Christian but I'm so sick and tired of all of the arguements... Both sides have logical and illogical points... Hope this helps... :D
  • I don't know who this person is, but I don't think the theory of evolution negates the bible or God.
  • Mainly because most of those people don't think for themselves. Most of them don't even know what the theory of evolution is even about. They're just following the party line like good little sheeple. Darwin is the poster boy for all they are against. Besides, even if they knew about Mendel, which is unlikely in most cases, he'd be a bit of an embarrassment. Mendel was, after all, a priest.
  • Why do anti-Communists go off on Marx and not Engels or Fourier? Fact is some people (or rather names) just become identified with certain positions and vice-verse. Marx and Darwin had better (or at least more) press. But then again, most people just prefer stupid arguments to good ones, so long as they involve a face, a name, and an experience they can relate to - e.g., "Darwin repented on his deathbed!" -- which is (1) false, and (2) even if it were true, would prove nothing concerning evolution or theism.
  • I have heard Mendel described by scientists as the "father of genetics". He was a monk and the RC Church refused to allow him to do research on hereditary using animals. Ironically, this was a blessing as he was forced to work with plants (peas) which made him get statistical data far quicker than if he had used animals. "Why do creationists seem to ignore Gregor Mendel?" This question does not tell the whole story. When Mendel became Abbott, his scientific work stopped and his research was lost for a very long time. So it was also "ignored" by other scientists, and at the time, his own church was uncomfortable with Mendel's research findings.
  • Mendel was an experimentalist, and his experiments are readily repeated and can be shown to be correct. Darwin was a theoretician, so there are no experiments to repeat. I agree that, in the light of Mendel's results, it is obvious that evolution must happen - but they won't accept that.
  • Sssh! Don't tell them or they'll start denying the existence of genes too. They'll call it intelligent inheritance or something.
  • as the bumper sticker says: To stupid to understand science? Try religion!
  • Maybe because he was a monk? Or maybe because genetics is a more difficult subject? Or maybe because Darwin is much easier and more fun tom caricature? Great question +5
  • Because some things that require research can be a little difficult for those who never actually read the Bible.
  • They tend to ignore any evidence that isn't in favor of their ideas
