Although it is difficult to do; you SHOULD just ignor them and consider the source.

I usually ignore them. If they are especially belligerent, I tell them to chew dooky and then ignore them :)

The few times it has happened, it was someone who's opinion wasn't very important to me. That and anyone who starts that has lost the argument before it started.

I tell them that even their avatar is ugly.

I calmly discuss why they are insulting me with them and pull apart their argument if I can and if not I'll slowly fade from the argument.

Hasn't happened yet, but if it did I'd just let it pass. If I do any insulting, it will be own my terms.

I will usually just ignore them but sometimes I say something insulting back in a nice way then unsubscribe. For example I may say I am sorry I was not aware you never had gotten a proper education.
