I need help with yellow dog linux for ps3 when the log in screen appeared i type down "root" and the password i try typing it down but it won't and when i press enter it say invalid i a noob at this so help?

when you type the root password on linux it either appears as **** or does not appear anything at all.just type it and press enter.this happens for safety reasons
