Can't you get the Registry to issue you another one?
get copies
First of all, let's relieve you of worries about "hiding something".
There is nothing to hide from you on your birth certificate. Especially since you've already seen it.
They may indeed want to keep an official copy for their own records, and that's their right.
You can get your OWN official, certified copy of your birth certificate from the courthouse in the county you were born in. In fact, you can look up the requirements online for your state, get a phone number to call, or even order it online. It only costs a few dollars.
You really don't need the bull crap like that from your Dad. Your Dad is really overreacting and he should not treat you like that. Thats nuts! You CAN keep it for yourself or get a copy for yourself and give it back to your Dad so he wont blow a head gasket. Best of luck!
You are 18. You are a legal adult now and you have the legal right to keep it. If he wants a copy so bad, go down to Kinkos and make a photocopy and give that to him. I'm curious though, why is he so insistant on this issue?
I needed copies of my birth certificate when I got married to a soldier. All I had to do was go to our county clerk and the office (State capitol in this case) that had the original, sent it to the clerks office, electronically, where it was printed on that beautiful, colorful paper with the official seal embossed in it. It cost me a whopping 13 dollars. I went ahead and bought a copy of my younger sister's, since she lost hers in a fire. It took all of 20 minutes. Perhaps your dad could invest a few bucks and get his own copy.
Believe it or not you can get another one. It's easy and it's inexpensive. You typically apply for it at the city hall of the place you were born.
Is it a US passport? Some foreign nationals control their families by controlling their movements around the universe. If US, give it to your daddy and go get another one for yourself. The one he keeps will become useless.
If you are 18 you can go to the dept of vital records or health dept, depending on where you live and get your own copy. You could also just keep the one you took from your dads. I don't think there is anything he can do about it.
I don't know why he wants it really badly.
he called me up telling me "if you dont bring that BC back right now, i dont want you to ever show your goddamn fucking face to this house ever again"
before that he told me he wanted it just for safe keeping reasons..... i believe thats its safe here at my moms house though..
It's yours. It's your property. But talk to your Dad and find out why he wants to keep it for you. Some things are important for emotional reasons and it might mean a lot to him to have some piece of your life with him.
i think you should use it to get your lisence, then gice back to your dad IF he REEEEALLY wants it
get a copy from the courthouse and give your dad his copy back. simple.
Yes. The bc is yours.
Why not simply apply for a duplicate certificate, it'll cost you a few shillings but it'll save you a headache.
My cousin/aunt(moms sis) and my mom. are telling me that i should stand up for myself and keep the BC. she also needs it for her section 8 stuff. to recieve money. she's helping me with college in that way too.
my sister told me that my dad is more pissed off cause he feels that im stealing from him. i did as a matter of fact said that id bring it back to him right after i get my license.. but again, my mom still needs it... idk wat to do!
FYI (She needs the original copy) not just copies of it
tellhimtogoget a copy if he wants it badly enough!
