Wake up early, before anyone else in the house. Start writing. If you can't think of anything to write, just write words that rhyme. Eventually, a word or group of words will stimulate your brain and you;ll begin. Set aside 30 minutes a day of writing your thoughts, regardless of how mundane you think they are. The best book on journaling is, I think, by Julia Cameron, it is called The Artists Way. It is a 6 or 8 weeks course that she puts the reader through with exercises to help one write. I highly recommend it to young, aspiring authors.

If you get writer's block, you gotta power through it. Answering the block with a lack of writing makes it worse. Also, write something every day, and carry one of those personal recorders with you - you never know when a good idea will strike!

People who write professionally have told me that journaliing is the writer's equivalent of doodling. I think they say this mostly because journaling doesn't take alot of creativity, nor does it force you to learn to write better. Writing is an EXTREMELY competetive profession and so your road to success NEEDS to include improving your ability to research and interview, and to write quickly, clearly and concisely. Trust me, these are going to be the biggest challenge to writing well. If you are serious about becoming a writer, I would suggest you set up a blog (or maybe try signing up with a website like hubpages where you can make a tiny amount of money off your writing, and get feedback from your readers). Each week, pick something that interests you and write a short story or article about it. This forces you to get out of your own head, and also helps you start to develop an area of specialized knowledge that will help you get writing projects in the future. Good luck!
