Crwth is in the English dictionary.

TWYNDYLLYNGS
All english words have at least one vowel in them.
There are none as far as I know.
However there are entire sentences in Czech.
Like:
Strč prst skrz krk.
:-)
Since y is sometimes a vowel, doesn't y function as the vowel in rhythm? After all, the y is responsible for the "i" sound in rhythm. ("i" pronounced like the i in "it")
Rhythms is the longest English word without a vowel.
If y is classed as a consonant, syzygy is the second-longest English word without a vowel, tied with rhythm.
Definition of syzygy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syzygy
EDIT
Notice that the "rhythms" in first place has an "s" on the end.
The "rythm" in second place doesn't have an "s". :-)

You're reading Is rhythms the longest proper(english language) word without a vowel?
- which can also be phrased in the following ways:
Comments
*Sometimes Y
So this is ALMOST the word with no vowles.
by TenSixths on October 24th, 2011
No, I think that "Y" is ALMOST a vowel ;-)
by Galeanda on October 24th, 2011
A "y" is not a vowel, so it seems that "rhythms" with the 's' is the longest one so far.
