In most cases it goes to the fact that alcohol brings out the worst in people (lewd behavior, forgetfulness, general rudeness, and anti-christian behavior/attitudes). A lot of places went dry on Sundays in an effort to ensure that Sunday would remain the Lord's Day. Others went dry to ensure limited disruptions through what is supposed to be a serene day. Take your pick - those are the most common reasons.

You can't? That sucks. I would guess it is one of those crazy religious things. "The daaaay of the laaaaaaaaawd!!" and all that.

There was a ban long ago... That you couldn't buy it on Sundays... Because people drank all day instead of attending church... The "Sundae" was invented as a substitute... and I believe the Coca Cola (with cocaine) came out around that time as a float...
