  • the last pet we got was a mature male cat, he wasnt senior as in 12 year old, but probably around 4 or 5. hes a lovely boy, with great manners, some one had trained him well. The cat before, was a stray that arrived on our back door, she was very elderly, she stayed out her last years as our 'watcher' over the family:)
  • Absolutely, I would. I have adopted older animals in the past and will again. I plan to, as I get older, to only adopt seniors since I don't want to have a pet left behind when I die. I think you have asked a wonderful question.
  • Absolutely yes. The only two cats I adopted from the SPCA were adults - not seniors but around 5 years old. I didnt even ask to see the kittens as I knew they'd be fine as they get homes so much easier. I only wanted to see the adults - to pick ONE, and left with two - one of them ended up with cystitis and diabetes so I'm glad I took him. That's some years ago now - those two are no longer with me.
  • I read that on the LitterAndLore mailing list. It's a touching tribute to the bond between human and cat. I have my own senior citizen in Spoony, but she never suffered such a hard life as Amelia. We rescued her from the SPCA when she was a little kitten.
  • Certainly. Our cat Tigger found us and adopted us. Our vet tells us he is about 3 years old so he must have been about 1 when he started hanging out at our apartment. We used to feed the strays that people abandoned and provide water as well. The cats arrived and left through the years but once Tigger arrived he never left! :)
  • yea i would, i mean i know thier gonna like die majorly soon but itas like theyre much more timid, if u dont mind too much heart ache for you or your animal then go old
  • Yes when I got this lttle girl she was 1 1/2 yrs old. Came from a very bad living enviroment! She is now living at the RITZ compared to what she came from. +5
  • yes...actually, i would like to adopt an adult/senior cat from a person that is terminally ill. i have too many cats to do this right now but someday i will. i would like to meet the owner and i'd like for the owner to come see my home...i want the owner to know how their cat will be taken care of after they are gone and i'd like for the cat to be able to stay with their owner until the owner's death.
  • If I was in any position to take a pet on I would adopt the oldest, most needy / nervous / infirm / incontinent / ill temprered / ugly etc. one that needed a home because it's easier by far for the cute, young ones to get homed because most people acquire animals for their own benefit rather than for the animal's.
  • When I have been in a position to get a pet, age did not matter to me. Right now, I have a pit bull, Chloe, who was a stray that my (now ex) husband brought home. She was about 1 1/2 years old when I got her; she is now about 6 1/2 years old. I will not get another dog as she is dog aggressive. I also have a cat named Fruitcake. I rescued her as a kitten. She was born to a feral cat colony that my neighbor was feeding, and she contracted a highly contagious respiratory virus that she will have for life. This cat must have seen the neon sucker sign above my head, because she started sleeping under the overhang on my house when she was just days away from death. She is now just over one year old and is not experiencing any problems with her illness.
  • Yes I would- when I got my mixed fiest we had no clue of her age. We now know she was a lot older than we thought but age doesn't matter just want the dog to fit our lifestyle.
