  • If the sculpture is very valuable and could break in an earthquake (if you live in earthquake country, or if a child could knock it over, that is!), I would say, mount it - but if it is not that valuable and/or if there is little chance of breakage due to earthquake or a child knocking it down, mounting shouldn't be necessary? I think it depends mostly on those three particulars.
  • It depends entirely on how fragile the sculpture is or the surface it would land on if it fell. A 7 foot 400lb stone sculpture might not get damaged if it fell over, but might damage things that it hit. Conversely a delicate sculpture might get broken if it just tipped over. You decide.
