  • There was a recent article in the paper that was askign the question if Americans are saving too much for their retirement. Based on your reply that sounds like it might be true. The first thing you want to do is stop contributing if you haven't already to the 401k/IRA type of accounts. There are certain exceptions for which you can withdraw money from a retirement account such as education. You can also borrow against your 401k. But I don't think you want to do that since you would have to repay yourself anyway.
