  • Many yrs. ago when my mom had a stroke & was at the hospital. It was a day when I was called saying she wasn't going to make it much longer. I had to drive to the hospital myself....in extremely bad weather....& when I was very upset about my mother. I ended up going off the road that day because I was so upset & had trouble seeing the road! I found out later that the windshield wipers had needed replacing, that they weren't very good at the time. But, it was a very scary thing going off the road like that! I thought I was going to be the next one in my family to die. I was also stuck in mud for awhile with my car. I finally got it out of the mud though.

  • When I was doing basic training in the Navy we had to do abandon ship drills jumping into water from a high platform. The platform had a small area - just enough for one person - and it was WOBBLY! Being young, "green" and new to that type of thing it was TERRIFYING waiting in line for your turn. We only had to do the jump once. Once I hit the water the fear was gone but I asked to go a second time just to make sure I had overcome my fear.

  • When I was a kid and my mothers then exboyfriend had a psychotic episode, all I remember is she told me to run and hide and not come out till she was there. I ran to nearby bushland and sat as still as I could for several hours, even though I could hear police sirens. I was frozen with fear, later she came nearby with the police and they kept calling my name, it was then when I knew it to be safe to come out. {The boyfriend had chased her with a carving knife into a nearby yard but was deterred from using it when the neighbour came out to see what was going on). Scary sh*t.
  • I was deployed to Iraq but I wasn't really afraid of what could happen to me at the time. I was resigned to accepting what would happen to me there but as we were initially deployed I had one very strong fear. I was so afraid that if we were to come under fire I would freeze and cower, leaving my truck and my team exposed to enemy fire with no defensive capacity. I was absolutely terrified I would fail my brothers-in-arms and my friends. As it turned out though I was very determined to fight it and I was told by a driver I was the most prepared and proactive soldiers he had seen in Iraq for the six months he had been there and he felt extremely safe with me near him. When I was In Iraq my men were everything for me and I didn't want to fail them. That was my greatest fear.
  • While serving in the USMC, I helped fight a forest fire in N. Carolina. While digging a firebreak and watching the fire approach, it became obvious that we wouldn't get the break dug in time. The warrant officer in charge of the operation ordered us to abandon the project and retreat. When we grabbed our tools and turned to run, we realized that the fire had gotten behind us and we were surrounded. Obviously, I got out alive, but the realization that I was minutes away from burning to death was very terrifying.

  • I can't recall of ever being terrified of anything but close to it. The time I remember is when I was eight years old and I was witness to an F5 tornado about three quarters of a mile away. The sky was a sick greenish yellow color and the sound was horrible. It was the stuff that nightmares are made of.
  • well i was recently in a situation that wasn't the most fun thing ever. I was by no means terrified, but I was incredibly lonely and pretty sad/pissed off. Went to see an ex in vegas, and she left me at my hotel after she picked me up from the airport. It was the longest 2 days I think i've ever been through. I was scheduled for 5 days but I went home early. vegas was still fun, but when u dont know anybody there and u went just to see someone and they ditched u, it tends to bring u down a little.
