G'day Slic2007, Thank you for your question. The main reason started with Mickey Mouse who started wearing white gloves from March 1929. The reason was so that you could distinguish his hands from the rest of the body as both were black. It was adopted for other characters even after they started being made in colour. This is because gloves emphasise the hands of talking animals and makes drawing gestures much easier. Characters from other studios such as Bugs Bunny have gloves for the same reason - indeed it is the only thing Bugs Bunny wears most of the time. I have attached sources for your reference. In addition to Keithold's terrific answer (who can top that?) I also think that the majority of the more "classic" Disney characters were created in a more genteel time when ladies and gentlemen wore gloves as a rule of society. Just my little pocket theory.

I think it is to cover up the fact that Disney had a finger on each of those characters' hands surgically removed. Didn't you notice that they only have three fingers on each hand?
-
Because they don't know how to draw hands very well.
-
I think it is becase gloves are royal and magical.
-
... so they do not leave fingerprints or dermal DNA.

They suffer from a form of OCD called hypochondria :)

i agree with ptrask, they knew children would fear and question the surgical scars. or maybe their hands are simply black holes for children's happiness and innocence and suck their souls right out of them so they have to wear special gloves to protect the innocent ^_^
