  • As one who ran a veterinary medicine business for 30 years, I could say that most veterinary drugs are exactly the same as those meant for humans. Only the concentrations will be different and packings will be larger. So a vet, who knows his pharmacology, could very well cut a pill meant for humans into portions to match the body weight of the pet and give it to you and it will be as effective as the veterinary version of the drug. As for overcharging it depends on the vet concerned.
