Dribble alot, shoot alot, run sprints alot. Play, play, play and practice.

Well, this is pretty much a self-improvement question. Basically, find the area which you suffer in most, and drill yourself constantly in that. If you suffer at free-throws, go outside, grab a ball, and shoot free-throws for a good 15-30 minutes, take a break, and do it again. Once you're better at free-throws, focus on dunking, and so on.
-
Practice. It is the only way to get bette at anything not just basketball. Pete Maravich practiced constantly and he was one of the best basketball players ever. 40pts avg. before there was a 3 point shot. I believe he still holds the SEC scoring record and he didn't play varsity his freshman year.

You have to develop the skills to give you the confidence of being a great player. Playing B-Ball once or twice a week is'nt going to do it. You really have to dedicate yourself and I think most people do that because they love to play. If you don't have a love for it you probably won't develop to your full potential. These ABrs are right when they say play everyday. If my daughter develops an interest in B-ball I'll have her go to the gym and challenge the GUYS! she'll be set when it's time for her to play organized ball.

maybe watch more basketball games, locally and on tv. and of course practice.
-
Visualize yourself getting better with practice and shoot 1000 baskets every day. (I heard this directly from someone who played with the Warriors).
-

To improve your basketball skills you have to practice.Take shots over and over again. Challenge friends to games. Work out your good skills and use them to advantage. Just work at it. It's not like it will click all of a sudden in a second.
-
I see here everyone is saying "practice" but i bet you know that It's a matter of what do i practice? Depending on what position you want to play Guards... you should practice your runs and get faster by doing some running drills then comes the shooting, shoot from the same spot 5 times each day until you can make it 5 times in a row then the most important free-throws make at least 20 at the end of your practice If you're a big man you have to work the inside game making those lay ups and turn around shots but also work on your free-throws because that is always important

Perfect practice makes perfect. And not just shooting for crying out loud. Practice passing, rebounding, and defense too. Also, be a student of the game. Being able to make the right decision under pressure is just as important being a great shooter or passer. My favorite poster growing up said something like this: "Right now, someone somewhere is practicing and when you meet, they will beat you". Most people really underestimate the power a great motiviational poster...haha

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! LOL GOOD LUCK! ;O)

Practice more often than you probably are now?
-
Take up running, more specifically: sprinting. With basketball, and soccer, you're constantly running up and down the court. If you want to be fast, you have to build up your running stamina. After you get the whole running/sprinting thing down, start doing it again but now dribble a ball at the same time. This will help SO MUCH! After all of this, work on your lay-ups. Basically, all I'm telling you to do is practice, but work on specific aspects. Good luck! :-)
-
Keep your shoulders square when you shoot and don't forget to use your legs. Nice rotation. Nice arch. Soft touch.
-
Practice is absolutely the general answer, and the more specific answer is to learn "drills for skills." You should definitely focus on your weakest areas. I am personally impressed by the "Better Basketball" series of DVD's. Each DVD focuses on one area of skills, and a number of great players (NBA and WNBA) contribute (e.g. Jason Kidd, JJ Redick, Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings). Check it out here: http://www.betterbasketball.com/ Go for it, and good luck!

practice what ever you think you will be doing when you play if you think your going to be a shooter practice your shots at where your comfortable with and no further but if you think you are going to be a post player work on your lay ups, and your fakes also work on the 2 most important things to do in a game passing to get the ball to other more open players and rebounding offensive and defensive also helps if you play with older and more skilled players so you can watch there techniques and give that a shot

WORK HARD GO HARD PRACTICE PRACTICE EVERY DAY UNTIL U GET BETTER

Not only should you practice, but you should practice the right mechanics or you will become very good at shooting very bad. In addition, you should join a recreational basketball league. Even if you practice every day, there are certain intangible skills in basketball (as there are in every sport) that can only be improved by playing full court games. If you are serious about improving, you might also want to check out some of these websites. They sell videos and books about improving yourself. Just remember that the videos are not magical and will only help you to learn the mechanics but will serve you no purpose without constant practice and reinforcement. http://www.betterbasketball.com/ https://www.cart-coacheschoice.com/Articles.asp?ID=1

You have to LOVE it!! when i play nothing else matters, work on each skill and learn how to be a team player.
-
You need this!
-
Play, play, play practice all the time. The only way to get better is to play all the time. Learn, play, play, play and be a teamplayer, your not on your own - you are part of a team!
-
When you are not on the court, practice seeing yourself making all of those impossible shots in your mind. Practice in your mind until you can make all of those shots any time you want to. Then take that confidence to the court and have fun! You'll be amazed at how much better you have become. Good luck!
-
Thats easy! Just practice! :). Practice playing against someone else, throwing the ball at a wall always help on catching better. Atleast it helped for me when I was just starting out. My bf helps me out quite a bit, hes kinda like me "dummy." I practice like dribbling around him, or like a man-man defense where he guards me and makes it tough. Or just different moves to help out. That really helps!

Hello I can help you get better at basketball. I am a Freshman and i play basketball for my school. I go out and take 100 layups right and left handed, 100 shots and dribble around the block. I always do that and what happened to me was that now i play freshman and JV. So thats how to improve and if you dont want to tak 100 shots at least take 20 shots everyday.
