yeah, in some cases. Its but its the titles the media give them and the titles they gives themselves that shouldn't be used in my opinion. use their real names it you must use anything.

No, most "mass killers" would do it whether their name will be known or not, they tend to be extremely psychotic. And people want to and have every right to know who has killed their son/ cousin/ etc.

yes!! i've often thought it's a terrible thing to give them so much attention

I think it needs to be more than that - not show photos of the killer, videos they had taken etc, not keep running news stories and updates, not making it the focus of national and itnernational (local is more understandable) news. A noted psychiatrist has made recommendations the to media about how to handle it to prevent future shootings. They are supposed to not focus on it and make the news stories as short, mundane and boring as possible. By not adhering to such advice the media is acting very irresponsibly. One mass killing is mostly followed very soon after by another, or two. If the media grew a backbone and changed its approach, this could probably be averted. I am not saying the name should never be made known but it shouldn't be repeated time and time again by the same media source, and it is probably the best for all if it isn't stated. Ultimately, the only people for whom the name matters are the victims, their families and the local community. They do not have to be informed of the name through the media.

There's alot of things that the media needs to do, but they don't. They want to sensationalize everything to sell more copy. When doing the right thing and selling more papers competes in the mind of the publisher, integrity goes right out the window.
