Hits are counted as strikes in the box score. The pitch count will be every pitch thrown.
All pitches not called a ball by the umpire are considered a strike. This goes for hits, foul balls, check swing, swinging and missing...etc.
The only exception I can think of is when a pitcher intentionally walks a batter, these are not included in the pitch count.
Is it legal for a pitcher to have a flag on the finger part of his glove?

If a batter swings & misses at strike 3 and the ball hits the ground, the catcher must tag the batter or throw to first. Why?
