They can carry Lyme Disease... have someone look at the bump. It's possible the head of the tick broke off. A round of anti-biotics might be in order.

If the head of the tick broke off and is still inbedded in you scalp you can get an infection in that area. Infections left unattended can be very serious. When ever you remove a tick always check to see if you got the head out as well. Watch the area as well, if what looks somewhat like a target developes around the area you may have contracted Lymes Disease. Have a doctor do a simple blood test to determine if you have Lymes or not. In and of themselves I do not know of any that are persay Poisonous; only the infections you can get from them.
