Dislocated kneecap, Cruciate ligament injury, Prickle in between the paw pads, torn claw/nail .. the possibilities are endless. If it's been 3 days and no improvement AND he/she has stopped eating (sorry wasnt sure as you used both his/her in Q) then it's time to visit your vet. Pretty quickly.

Yes a wide range of things could be going on but I do know Pits are prone to hip dysplasia (spell ?)- I'd take my dog to the vet anytime they quit eating or drinking. Only you can be your dogs voice you know her habits better than anyone.

It is starting to be PAST TIME...to have taken this dog to see the VET. I have no clue what a "different type of rub" MIGHT BE...but obviously...it isn't helping the problem and meanwhile...your dog is uncomfortable to the point( this would be PAIN) that it is refusing FOOD. This sort of indicates that the dog is becoming VERY UNCOMFORTABLE and needs to see the Vet. We can not SEE your dog, or try manipulating the leg to see what and where the PAIN is coming from... PLEASE TAKE THE DOG TO THE VET ASAP...Monday at the latest.
