Almost half the US population supports same sex marriage.Why is Obama dragging his feet on the issue,or doesn't he listen to the polls?

Did you do maths at school? Almost half means less than half. That means that more than half didn't. I guess he listens to the polls after all.

Personally, my libertarian side rules on this. I see no compelling reason for the government to decide which consenting adults should and should not marry. I thought it was wrong when interracial marriage was prohibited, and I think it's wrong when same-sex partners are forbidden to marry. But it may be premature to push a nationwide change through Federal law. Six states have now allowed same-sex marriage. New Your is poised to join them, I think that as people see that the horror stories of the religious right are ridiculous, the will to wipe out this inequality will grow. The USA will eliminate this discrimination just as it did racial discrimination once woven into marriage laws.

Well, the truth is he really doesn't have that much to do about it. The law of the land says if it's not specifically mentioned in the constitution it is a matter for the states to decide. And marriage is Not mentioned in the constitution, so the decisions have been left to the states (WAY TO GO New Hampshire!!!!). There are two issues that should be addressed at the Federal level, but at the Judicial level. The first is the Federal Governments refusal to recognize Same sex marriages. (part of DOMA) This is a violation of the constitution... If the states say it's marriage, the Fed should recognize this. Failure to do so is unconstitutional, as the Act does not supersede the constitution.. This will ultimately be addressed by the Supreme Court. Secondly, DOMA itself violates the full faith and credit clause of the constitution. This will ultimately be addressed by the Supreme Court.

Bu$h never listened to the polls. As such, the President can do little. But I would think that there are many more pressing issues to be resolved, particularly since there are so many folks working at the grass roots on it.

He's got a lot on his plate right now...I don't think he has room for another hot issue to deal with.
