Women used to drink caffeiene all the time when they were pregnant back before they knew better. How many babies actually came out with problems from this back then?

    Not sure about the stats., but if I were pregnant, I would not drink anything with caffeine ... no reason to push my luck.

    I think alcohol would be a bigger problem for developing embryos than coffee.

    It is not conclusive that drinking coffee during pregnancy effects the baby. The majority of studies show no ill effects on babies caused by the mother drinking coffee.

    However, there is an increased risk of miscarriage if you consume over 300mg of caffine day. 300mg is equivalent to drinking over 4 cups of coffee a day (or 6 cups of tea or 8 cans on cola). That is a lot of coffee! Frankly, you shouldn't be drinking over 4 cups of coffee a day whether you are pregnant or not (unless you want to suffer from anxiety and a blood pressure problem).

    As with most things, an excess of something will cause problems. Consuming in normal amounts will be fine.
